Summary:
The ISSW (International Snow Science Workshop) is the largest snow and avalanche conference in the world. It aims to promote the interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and experiences between snow science researchers and practitioners. Thus, the congress offers outstanding networking opportunities for national and international participants.
For the first time, in order to promote the ISSW motto, one day of the conference is dedicated to a broader public: “ISSW goes public”. At this event, local and international experts are invited to discuss the complex issue “Forests and sustainability- Mountains and natural hazards”. The thematic focus of the day is organized in close cooperation with the EUSALP Group and the Alpine Convention.
In this context, questions such as “Sustainable safeguarding of habitat in the mountains – but how?” will be discussed among a wide audience.
Additionally, this year a Special Topic on the protection function of forests towards avalanche risks mitigation will take place – “Integral engineering solutions; from protection forests to temporary measures”.
