Summary:
The United Nations University Institute for Environment and Human Security and Eurac Research, through their new joint programme, Global Mountain Safeguard Research(GLOMOS), are organising the above United Nations International Workshop in order to enhance Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change Adaptation, and Emergency Response Preparedness in global mountain regions to increase the resilience of mountain communities towards natural and man-made hazards and disaster risks, to protect the wealth of biological and cultural diversity, and to support the sustainable development of the highly sensitive social-ecological systems.
The congress will act as a platform for communication and exchange inviting interested researchers from numerous disciplines, practitioners, government representatives and NGO´s, UN agencies, public and private institutions, the private sector, as well as international networks and organizations related to mountain- specific topics.
Major aims of this conference are to discuss present and future challenges in mountain areas worldwide, to bridge between the international academic community and the United Nations system, and to facilitate a global community of practice dealing with contemporary mountain specific subjects bringing science into action.
The conference is organized under the patronage of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano and the Government of South Tyrol.
